Gab?s (in Arabic) is one of the main Tunisian governorates. It is a sea oasis, situated in southeast Tunisia on the Gulf of Gab?s, with a population of 116,323 (2004 census).
Gab?s was an integral city in the territory of Carthage. Following the Second Punic War in the 2nd century BC Gab?s came under Roman control with a new name Tacape.
7th century: A new era in the history of Gab?s begins with the Muslim conquest (Al'Fatah Al'Islami). Mohammed's companion Sidi Abou Loobaba Al'Ansarey settles in Gab?s and makes great achievements.
